Conversion Funnel Optimization

When you first begin thinking about how to improve conversion rates, you'll probably start with landing page optimization through A/B or multivariate testing. Landing page optimization is the process of redesigning, testing, and analyzing the pages of your site that are used to receive traffic, the "landing pages."

What you may not realize, however, is that conversion funnel optimization is just as important, if not more important, than landing page optimization.

Conversion funnel optimization is the process of redesigning, testing, and analyzing the pages of your website after the landing page. This can include product detail pages (if category pages are used as landing pages), the shopping cart, and the checkout process.

Simple changes to your conversion funnel can lead to big improvements in your conversion rate. Here are some of the things you should do to improve your conversion funnel:

1. Decrease the number of steps required to complete the conversion. This is the first place to start. Simple but so often overlooked. Why does billing information need to be on a different page than shipping information? Some of the strongest converting sites use a one-page checkout process that has proven itself with higher conversion rates and lower cart abandonment.

2. Decrease the amount of information you ask the visitor for. Do you really need to know everything you're asking for? Think about what you're asking for. Is it realistic? Is it a turnoff to website visitors? This is especially relevant to lead gen conversions. Often our real estate clients want to know everything about a potential converter (age, income, size of house, timeline for moving, etc.). This is great info for the marketer to collect, but it's off-putting to the website visitor. Think about what you're asking for and question whether it's really necessary for the lead gen process, or whether it should be determined during the sales process instead.

3. Consider how information is presented to visitors. Is it easy to understand and does it move them through the funnel smoothly? Are visitors distracted by cluttered navigation and special offers? Use clean, simple navigation and good design to lead customers by the hand through the checkout process. Forms should be clean and above the fold. Don't expect visitors to go hunting for the conversion form. Use large text but avoid cluttering the form with too much of it. Use simple language and clearly label what's required and what isn't.

4. Seek external help from customers and employees. You cannot expect to improve conversion rates alone. You need input from outside sources, so talk with customer service agents and understand what problems customers face with the website that force them to call in to customer service. You may then want to bring in some potential customers for an in-person usability study, where you give them specific tasks to complete and observe how they go about doing it. You will be shocked!

5. Do not make assumptions. Often times, conversion funnel and landing page optimization data will shock you -- the element you thought was innocuous could turn out to be killing your conversion rates. Keep an open mind.

6. Test, test, test. Don't stop with one, keep testing. This is a dynamic world and your website should be too. You should allocate at least 10% of your yearly advertising budget to testing, and at least half of that should be spent on testing your landing pages and conversion funnels.

Affiliate Marketing Tips - E-marketing Tips

Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing is an Internet-based marketing practice or a referral marketing in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts.

Affiliate programs can be a big source of revenue. The key to maximizing your earnings is engaging your readers. Unlike traditional ads where you are paid for impressions or clicks, affiliates are only paid when/if a specific action is performed. The action might be a purchase or signing up for a newsletter, but regardless, you are not paid until you've compelled your readers to act.

With that in mind, here are some affiliate marketing tips -

1. Know Your Audience

The most successful way to use affiliate programs is to anticipate and meet the needs of your readers. Consider why they are coming to your site. What are you providing that they are looking for? Make sure the affiliate products you are promoting provide a solution to your audience's problems.

If you are writing about sports, don't put up affiliate ads for printer toner just because everyone has a printer and those programs have a high payout. The people who are coming to read commentary or get states for their favourite teams aren't thinking about those things when they're on your site.

The more relevant the ads are to your readers, the more likely they will use them.

2. Be Trustworthy

Readers are savvy. They know an affiliate link when they see one. If you break their trust by promoting a product you don't believe in or take advantage of their visit with too many ads, they will leave and never come back.

It is your repeat visitors that will drive traffic. They are the ones who will give you linkbacks, spread the word, and recommend your site as the go-to place for valuable content. You need to build a relationship based on genuine content.

If your visitors don't think you're being honest, they won't read anything else you have to say.

3. Be Helpful

Think of affiliate ads as additional resources that complement your content. Give value to your content by making it helpful, useful, and informative.

Don't put up a list of your favourite books, hoping people will click on the affiliate link, purchase the books (just because you listed them), so you can cash in on a sale. Take some time to write a detailed review, and use affiliate ads to point them in the right direction if they decide to act on your information. That's what affiliate ads are for. If you write a great review recommending a book and readers buy the book because of it, you should get something for that.

But just throwing out links to products with no rhyme or reason will result in a quick exit by visitors.

4. Be Transparent

Always disclose your affiliations. Your readers will appreciate your honesty, and will feel better about contributing to your earnings. If they sense that you are being less than honest about your affiliations, they are savvy enough to bypass your link and go directly to the vendor just to avoid giving you referral credit.

Honesty and full disclosure is a necessary part to building a loyal reader base. They know they are supporting you by using your referral links. Make them happy and eager to do so.

5. Select Carefully

Take the time to go through all the different options for products or services available through the programs. Put some thought into which products or services your readers may need or like. Also, change the ads around often, try different ones, and use different graphics and text to see which are the most effective.

It may take some time before you figure out the best formula, and you may also find that you need to continually rotate ads to attract more attention.

6. Try Different Programs

If one particular program doesn't seem to be working for you, try another one.

Affiliate programs don't look the same. They offer different products, services, and payment structures. Some programs will have a lifetime payout on sales while others will limit it to 30-90 days. Some programs allow much more flexibility in the types of ad units available, as well as colors and design so it fits better on your site's layout.

Also, check your favorite vendors to see if they run their own affiliate program. Sometimes you can go directly to the source. You're not limited to big affiliate networks.

Integrate systematic ad testing into your strategy to maximize your profits.

7. Write Timeless Content

Your old content can still be valuable even though it's no longer on your front page. Take advantage of the long term opportunities by making sure you provide timeless content.

If visitors come across your older content first, and find that it offers dated information, they will leave right away. Of course, information moves forward, so relevant content changes quickly. You can make your content timeless simply by adding links to your updated articles on your old ones.

Many platforms allow you to show "most recent" or "most popular" or "related articles" on every page, so no matter how old the article is, it will always show access to your new ones. Your old content can make money for you indefinitely.

8. Be Patient

Affiliate revenue grows and builds up with time. Remember that some programs offer lifetime payouts. If you refer a visitor, you may continue to make money from that one visitor even if he doesn't come back to your site. Also, as long as you have referral links still active in your old posts, they may still payout for you.

Affiliate programs aren't a get rich quick plan, but it provides opportunity to make passive income in the future.

9. Stay Relevant

Keep up to date on the latest offerings of your affiliate programs. New ad units, advertisers, and tools are constantly being added to improve usability and be more visually appealing. Small changes go a long way in motivating action by readers. You may be left out in the dust by being complacent with your strategy.

Don't get lazy about monitoring trends and exploring new opportunities.

10. Content Comes First

Above all else, your content must be your highest priority.

Your content is your foundation, the life blood on which the site exists. Without valuable and helpful content, readers won't come. Focus on providing excellent content, and the monetizing strategies will work out.

Once you start compromising your content to cater to the affiliate programs or any other money making venture, you will lose your readers. Once that happens, you will lose the opportunity to receive any earnings from any of your ads, be they CPM, CPC, or referral based.

Multivariate Testing - E-Marketing Tips

Do you really want to revenue from site, or your site getting good traffic but your visitors isn't converting into your customer?.

Here I am Going to discuss most effective e-marketing tips called Multivariate Testing that helps you to increase your ROI and convert your audience (Visitor or Traffic) into your real customer. In this technique your small changes on variables and on call to actions provide fine tune to your website and convert into big results.

Are you looking to...

* Increase the number of customers from your existing traffic?
* Improve the appeal of your website to your visitors?
* Improve your online Return on Investment?

Did you know there’s a precise way to learn how to make your website more effective? To identify a more compelling combination of layout, design, copy, calls to action and headlines? A method that involves no guesswork, no surveys and no focus groups?

It’s called Multivariate Testing (MVT), and it should be at the heart of your online continuous improvement strategy

What is Multivariate Testing (MVT)?

Every day, thousands of real customers and prospects use your website to try to achieve real-life objectives. Multivariate Testing test site changes on the live audience. It's a proven effective way to test the real impact of multiple changes to a page.

Is your logo in the right spot? Is your call to action prominent enough? Is the headline engaging? Is the body copy clear enough? Would another background colour be more effective? Or a different font? Or different pictures? Or... or... or...

Multivariate Testing gives you the power to test changes to these sorts of factors. To identify which combination of changes will drive the most sales or enquiries. It tells you - quickly and unambiguously - how your customers and prospects actually respond to your changes. You'll have precise statistics identifying the changes that improve your site, and those that damage it.

Why Should I Test My Website?

In business no one likes to make assumptions but unfortunately for many website owners that is all they have to work off when it comes to improving website performance. By testing your website with a tool like Google Website Optimizer you no longer have to make assumptions about what works on your site and what doesn't. Even the smallest changes to your website can have a profound impact on your bottom line, uninformed change is risky.

In other words, it puts actual users in charge of your continuous improvement strategy. Who better to dictate the evolution of your website than the people who actually use it? They are, after all, the real experts...

How Does It Work?

With multivariate testing you can develop a series of alternatives for each of those areas and then present different combinations of those alternatives to your visitors and track which combinations produced the best result. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to sell something online or simply get someone to contact you, multivariate testing helps you find the best website presentation to achieve that end.

5. Leverage videos and podcasts.
Podcasts are a simple way to provide more information and customizing your business or service. The MP3 format can be listened to easily listen on the web and your blog. You can podcast your files and to manage them via iTunes. You can also stream video of your visitors in homes and let them watch on their Apple TV, it recently announced a product.

A blog should be optimized for users, search engines and income, in that order. A blog looking professional is important. Add a form to capture names and e-mails to create your e-mail list. For SEO, change your permalinks to this custom option: /% year% /% monthnum% /% day% /%% postname / and allow customization of permalinks. This is a search engine friendly site that is commonly used.

5 Popular Search Engine Optimization Myths.

Search Engine Optimization is a widely used and known term among Webmasters. There are however many misconceptions and therefore five of these popular myths are addresses below.

1. Content is King
Fresh, original and relevant content is very important however is by no means a guarantee for getting Search Engine derived visitors. Bing, Google, Yahoo and others use several hundred factors when ranking each Site (and content comprises an important however small proportion of these factors). Good SEO focuses on many factors of a Website and not just content; for example, if two Websites are identical save for the high level domain where one is a .com and another a .edu then the .edu will be ranked as more important by the Search Engines.

2. All links are equal
Getting links to a website is very time consuming. Backlinks are however critical to getting favourable Search Engine rankings. The anchor text of a link, the relevancy of the linking Site, the rank of the linking Site and other factors all add up to how beneficial the link is for your Site. In general a link is better than no link at all however it is more valuable to have fewer high ranked sites linking to yours rather than many low ranked sites with poor linking (e.g. anchor text such as 'click here').

3. The World is Global
And just when we thought that the Internet made the world a smaller place, along came Search Engine Algorithms which love single countries, languages and so on. Targeting an Australian audience but love the cheaper hosting in the U.S.A? You may just be harming how Search Engines target your site! Want U.K. visitors but your Site language is English (U.S.)? Again the Search Engines may 'see' your site as a U.S.A. targeted site. Make sure that all aspects of your site are consistent in relation to your targeted geographic region.

4. SEO results are Guaranteed!
SEO is very much an art with a small part being science. Google, Bing, Yahoo and others don't publish their ranking algorithms and protect them fiercely. Hence it isn't possible to know exactly what will and won't work in relation to SEO. The basics of the algorithms are however widely known therefore getting these factors correct in Sites are important (e.g. inserting a relevant title meta-tag on each page).

Getting the basics right will improve the chance of a good ranking however there are no guarantees in regards to Search Engine Optimization!

5. SEO is a quick solution
SEO takes a long and determined effort and results are often not seen for very many months. Whether linking, changing to 'human friendly' URLs or any other SEO activity, do not expect to see results in a short time-frame. An aligned and common misconception is also that once the essentials of SEO are in place, the work is over and the visitors will come streaming in. SEO needs to be ongoing and improved with time.

Search Engine Optimization takes repeated and deliberate actions to be successful. Taking a long term view as well as careful planning will assist in getting the best from Search Engine Optimization.

Email Marketing - A small piece of E-Marketing

Many companies consider that to be successful with e-marketing (marketing), you have to target search engines only. There are a number of different views of how to conduct marketing through the Internet. Email is an excellent way to reach 1000 to 1000 of your target audience with a specific theme that you want on the market.

On average, the rate of click of a campaign by e-mail in May only be about 2%, but if you imagine you can send as many emails you have saved, for a low cost, then it could be extremely beneficial for any business. Many companies have email stored in a database and have no idea what to do with them, it may be a waste if they are sitting there and never get used. When you consider that most of the emails you have stored are clients who have already visited your site or products purchased. May this bring the responsiveness of the entire email campaign in a 4 or 5% response. This response is measured by the number of people who click through to your website from e-mail.

There are myths that people believe that you do not see much by way of statistics, it is inaccurate as the massive amount of statistics, you can see, this is absolutely unbelievable. With the possibility of:
  • Number of emails opened
  • Number of times clicked
  • If they bought from you
  • And many more ...
Do not leave your e-mails stored waste without goto content or to send them information, we consider an email marketing campaign. mi4gt2zn97

Mistake of Bigadda or Gulsan Grover?

I am a fan of Gulshan Grover (bad man) and I love his line 'Jeene Ka Maza To Khatte Mein Hee Hai'. Recently, a friend of mine told me that Gullu has started his own blog at BigAdda on the lines of BigB. I visited the blog gulshangrover[dot]bigadda[dot]com to see what's in there for me. I was surprised to note that the very first, and only, post of Gullu had the timestamps December 30, 2009. Yes, December 30, 2009, and today is July 9, 2009. But, amazingly, on the lines of writing a diary, Gullu wrote the place & time of writing the post as December 28, 2008. It's bad BigAdda guys.... hope you are listening.

Increase Website Conversions

Increasing your website conversions is a sure-fire way of increasing your profits. Just image giving yourself an instant pay-raise by doubling your profits! You can do this in two ways, double the amount of visitors your website receives everyday or increase the conversion rates of your existing visitor count. In reality this looks like this, your website receives 100 visitors each day and you make two sales at a total of $500. To turn that $500 into $1,000 you need to aim at doubling your conversions. On the other hand, you could always turn your 100 daily visitors into 200 hundred to increase your conversions from two sales to four, making you the same $1,000. I think you'll agree the latter one is harder work and just doesn't make sense in the long run.

Website Design

A website should look nice but you really do not need lots of flash graphics. Flash graphics can seriously increase the time it takes for your website to load. Remember, you only have a few seconds to catch your visitor's attention.

When designing your website you should also make sure that the navigation is logical with your categories are grouped sensibly. It should never take more than a few clicks to find an item and complete the checkout process.

Trim the Fat

Increase your websites loading time by hosting your images and videos on dedicated image and video hosting sites. You can then embed the images and videos directly into your website without your server taking the hit each time your website loads.

You'll also want to place scripts (such as analytical and visitor tracking scripts) in the footer of your website so that they are the last things to load. Make sure you check with each script to ensure it can be placed somewhere other than within the
or tags.

Place a Lead Capture Form on your Website

This is one of the easiest ways to boost conversions, place a lead-capture form on your website. You will need to register for an account with a dedicated email service provider (ESP) to handle this but the low cost will be offset by the increase in your conversion rates. You'll now need to simply add an ethical bribe (a reason for a visitor to give you their name and email address, such as, a free report or e-book) along with you lead capture form to start generating leads. As soon as you have a person's name and email address you will be able to follow-up with them via email and work towards turning the visitor into a customer.

A dedicated ESP allows you to add emails into an autoresponder that will now send emails to your prospects on autopilot; you simply add the emails in the order you want your prospects to receive them and specify time between email (1 day - 7 days etc).

It can take (on average) 5 - 7 contacts with a prospect before they become a customer, making email, your autoresponder, a very powerful medium.

Internet Marketing Tricks - SEO Blogging

As the Internet marketing beyond more traditional means of getting traffic via search engine optimization and paid advertising, social networks and related data management services should become an important part of your online search marketing strategy. Learning how to use blogging can help you create authority, connect better with your customers and lift your visibility in the search engine results.

We know that search engines are making changes to accommodate for shifts in the marketplace, as well as a more internet-savvy community. We can see this by the way the top search engines change results and test those changes on the user community. Google's universal search layouts, for instance, embed data from video, news and podcasts in the natural search engine results. Additional services, such as personalized search, are available that allow for search engine results swayed more toward user preferences or behaviors.

Blogs are a great first step. WordPress is a popular option that has an open source development community and several cool and powerful plugins. You get an RSS feed infrastructure and a place for embedding not only text content, but also video streaming and audio podcasts.

To take full advantage of social media optimization, here are six things you should do:

1. Set up your WordPress blog.
If you're running a business and want to start building your own authoritative blog, I recommend using a trusted hosting partner like GoDaddy.com. It takes about 10 minutes to set up. Apply for a Linux-hosted account, since WordPress isn't compatible with Windows. Unless you have a unique domain set up for this, I suggest adding the blog as a directory of your domain: your-site.com/name-of-blog-with-keywords. TypePad and the Movable Type blog system are other free services. Blogger.com--Google's platform--is free, and Yahoo! Small Business has a variety of options to select from as well.

2. Add content.
Add a blog post once every week or more to start. Frequency is important to search engines, and users will come to expect regular updates. When you add content, make sure you add the tags and category. Tags and directory structures help show the search engines what your post is about. To get ideas for content, look up article directories EzineArticles.com and GoArticles.com. If you copy the entire text, include the author's bio box and be aware that Google may catch you for duplication of content. A better way is to start with the article ideas, change the content and make comments about the article, while still referencing the original author.

If you have more money than time, have someone from RentACoder.com, Elance.com or Guru.com write it for you. You can also look into private label rights articles, but watch for duplicate content there, too. eBay has a lot of these types of articles available, but try to make them your own. If you're in the B2B arena, you hopefully have good marketing and information-based materials you can reinvigorate for your blog.

3. Manage RSS feeds.
RSS is an easily tracked and managed XML-based file structure that allows compatible web systems to read the data. Get an account with Technorati.com and update them with your site feeds--also known as pinging. You can also use FeedBurner.com and OnlyWire.com to help distribute content and PingOMatic.com and Pingoat.com to alert systems that you've made a new post.

4. Promote your blog.
Always leverage the search engines when you can. Conduct solid keyword research to find out what people are searching for within your niche. Use the Keyword search tool and look for longer keyword phrases rather than starting with the most competitive keywords. Include these keywords in the titles of your posts.

If you're active in the online community, visit related forums and other blogs to exchange dialogue and links. Make sure to tag everywhere and try to get a listing on Digg.com, stumbleupon.coom, as well as del.icio.us, reddit.com and MySpace.com. Educational content, such as "how to" articles, tend to be very popular.

5. Leverage podcasts and videos.
Podcasts are a simple way to provide more detail and personalization around your company or service. The MP3 format can easily be streamed for listening on the web and from your blog. You can podcast your files and even manage them via iTunes. You also can stream video into your visitors' homes and let them watch it on their Apple TV, a recently announced product.

6. Optimize your WordPress blog.
A blog should be optimized for users, search engines and income, in that order. A professional-looking blog is important. Look for clean sites--a white background works well--at the WordPress Theme Viewer site. Some of the themes are less SEO-friendly than others. Add a form to capture names and e-mails to build your e-mail list. For SEO, change your permalinks to this custom option: /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ and enable the customizable permalinks. This is a search-engine friendly URL that's commonly used.

Happy Blogging!!

Good SEO can help search engine reputation management

Although the typical use of search engine optimization (SEO) is to increase the visibility of a company and get references to it to the top of a search engine results page, one growing trend in SEO involves bettering a company's reputation.

Companies should regularly check what is being said about them on the web. If the content is negative, they should do something about it. Companies should create new content in an attempt to push the negative results off of the first page of Google or any other search engine. To do this, companies should have a blog and grab a profile on any number of social networking sites currently populating the web.

Reputation management appears to be a growing need for companies as more people are expressing their opinion about businesses online.

Internet Marketing Is Just Marketing

Internet marketing, web marketing, web 2.0, social media, youtube, twitting, SEM, SEO, PPC...what the?

Most people can see that the internet would be, or could be, a great place to market their products or services but it can all get a little confusing. There’s a new technology out every other day. How do you use it all to promote and sell your businesses products/services? Is it even worth it?

Well it certainly can be worth it if done correctly. We all know that the young men behind technologies like Facebook have made millions upon millions, and that big businesses like Chrysler have had great successes with different online campaigns. But, it’s also just as easily used to sky rocket the sales of a small business.

In the same way that both large and small businesses can profit from newspaper ads (using them in a different way) small businesses can use the Internet, as big business does, just in a different way to profit.

Luckily Internet marketing really isn’t as hard as what it’s made out to be. It’s just selling products and services to people. The very same people you sell to with local newspaper ads, radio ads, direct mail pieces, yellow pages ads etc.

Internet marketing is just marketing

Even though it’s a new medium the same principles of offline marketing still apply to online marketing.

1. Pick your target market(s) first and find out everything you can about them. What are their needs?

2. Fill that need with your product or service.

3. Effectively communicate that you have a product or service that fulfils that need.

With Internet marketing it’s simply that the medium of communicating (number 3 above) to people that you can fill their need, is different from other forms of marketing. You still need leads and to be able to convert those leads into paying customers. You still need to have the basics down...ie. a hungry crowd and something to feed them with.

So firstly, who is your hungry crowd?

If you can define exactly who you’re trying to sell to all of the other steps in the process fall into place so much more easily. Without knowing the answer to this question it’s very hard to convince people, that you don’t know and don’t know what problems and needs they have, that you can be their solution.

Also, it’s harder on the internet than any other medium to find them if you don’t know exactly who they are.

So really define exactly who they are. The more you can niche it down the better. For example ‘golfers’ is too broad and too hard to market to, but left handed golfers’ or ‘elderly golfers’, now that’s a lot easier to target to.

A good way to go about it is to think of a few people who you actually know who are a part of the ‘hungry crowd’, or perhaps a fictional character. A golf professional may think of a few friends or family that are off a high handicap, an architect might think of someone she knows who is looking to put an extension on their house.

The more you can get inside their heads the better.

By the way, you may have several target markets. This is particularly the case with larger business but you must define each market.

Fill their need with a product or service

You may well already have a product/service. If so there may be a way to mold it a bit better to the exact need of the target market(s) you going after.

If you don’t already have one, brainstorm. Come up with as many different ideas as you can that will fill this hungry crowds needs. Pare it down. Really get inside the heads of your target audience and think about what fulfils their need.

Communicate that your product/service can ‘feed’ the crowd

So up until now everything has been the same as any other medium in marketing. The only difference now from other forms of marketing is the medium. And there are subtle differences in the way that you communicate your marketing message.

You need to do 2 things really
a) Get as many leads as possible
The cornerstones of getting leads on the internet are Search Engine Marketing (which includes Search Engine Optimization and Paid Placement ads or Pay Per Click), email marketing, affiliate marketing and social media.

Then...

b) Convert as many of those leads as possible into a sale
Have these leads being as qualified as possible and clicking on a landing page that is compelling enough to convert the visitor into a customer.

So how do you do this through the medium of the Internet?

Internet Marketing Is Direct Response Marketing At Its Best
Internet marketing is really the ultimate form of ‘Direct Response Marketing’.

The way that successful Direct Response marketers go about it is to test something out, in fact test a few versions out, use the piece of marketing that got the highest response and then try and improve on it again and test to see if it gets a higher response and so on.

Successful Internet marketing is the same. Test, respond, test, respond. And luckily, it’s so easy to do on the web because web pages can be changed so quickly and marketing strategies can be changed so quickly.

How Do You Go About It?
It really is as simple as this at its base. But there are many things you need to know in order to get those leads and convert them. It really isn’t that hard. Having read this you now actually have a better understanding of the whole than many website designers and IT geeks, now all you need is some of the nitty gritty of how to do it.

You'll need to learn how to develop a website that converts leads into paying customers, and you'll need to learn how to develop many qualified leads coming to that web site every day.

Adsense Introduces Ability Change Font Size in Ad Units: Will Advertiser Interest Go for a Toss?

Google Adsense has been fundamental in enabling a lot of web aspirations take shape. There is no denying the paradigm shift it brought on to web publishing and online advertising since its launch a few years back. However, while it helped a lot of publishers earn truckloads of money, it was also known for its stringent ad policies. Most of these were guided by keeping advertiser interests at the forefront and doing everything possible to avoid low quality clicks and leads.

This meant publishers had very little control over the ad units that Google provided except for changing colors to match that of the text. Today in a move that would change the whole deal it has introduced the ability to change font sizes of ad units as well.

In an announcement on their blog, the Adsense team said:

We’re now happy to announce the launch of a related feature you’ve been asking for — the ability to change the font size of the text in your ad units. You can now select from small, medium, and large font sizes for ad units on pages in Latin-character languages.

This follows the February update to ad units wherein one could change the type faces to match that of the site’s content. Both these privileges if I’m not wrong were reserved for large publishers who drove majority of Google’s revenues (Web 18 in India for instance). Now these features have been enabled for all publishers.

I wonder how this will impact the business for advertisers. In fact, one also begins to feel this as a move borne out of a drop in performance revenue that Google might be earning. The feature itself has been long requested by a lot of publishers so as to blend Google’s contextual ads better with their content and thereby drive more click troughs. However, higher click troughs also posed the danger of these clicks being low quality. Site visitors tend to click on ads inadvertently if they are not aware it is an ad thereby rendering the visit bad for the advertiser from an ROI perspective.

Wouldn’t this move expose advertisers to such a risk?

From Google;s point one can assume that most web users might now have become ad blind to the existing ad units of Adsense after having seen them on almost all websites that they visit these days. Therefore, in order to drive performance, this probably was a natural progression that they always envisaged. However, the fact that the default font size would now be medium instead of small doesn’t add weight to the above point as much as the dwindling revenues theory does.
  • Will these actually bring better performance of ads?
  • these changes increase publisher revenues?
  • these impact the quality of leads and traffic for advertisers?
These are the important questions that would be on digital marketers and web publishers mind now.

A well defined SEO strategy is key in order to achieve the page one rankings you crave

Traditional Search Engine Optimization no longer meets the requirements of most online businesses which are looking for those top search engine results simply because standard on page optimization doesn’t give you the return on investment. A year or two ago you could spend a minimum amount on SEO and achieve reasonable positions on Google but that’s all changed. It takes a lot more strategic planning to get the results you’re looking for.

SEO agencies now offer more in-depth SEO strategies almost mirroring the services that would be provided by an online PR company, such as writing textual content and marketing blurb which will be added to the website itself and syndicated out on behalf of that client.

A full SEO strategic development project can include the usual meta data/ headers and SEO structure update, one-way link building to build off-page optimization (from directories, articles etc) and full social media optimization with Twitter updates!

Companies continue to focus marketing budgets on SEO

The recession is causing companies to continue using marketing efforts that have been proven to work, like search engine optimization (SEO), and are shying away from new forms like video.

The online survey found that more than 80 percent of respondents said they are already using search engine optimization (SEO) with almost 10 percent more saying they plan to use it in the next 12 months.

Meanwhile, new forms of marketing are slowly being adopted with about half of respondents reporting that they are currently using mobile marketing, or plan to implement it in the next year.

But the report shows that a number of companies are turning to the use of social media with 64 percent already using the tool and another 22 percent planning to begin using it in the next 12 months.

These statistics seem to fall in line with an independent survey.According to their findings, although only 26.1 percent of respondents said their marketing budgets are expected to increase in 2009, those who are boosting appear to be funneling most of the money into search engine marketing (SEM).

According to the survey, 49.2 percent of respondents said they plan to increase SEM during the second half of this year while another 44 percent expect no change

Google partiality,Google partiality,Google partiality

Does Google give PR2 to a new website on the 2nd day of its launch?? I heard "NO".

But yes, it's 2/June today and Google has already given PR2 to Bing.com. It's alexa rank has crossed 36,000 which is obvious but Google PR2??!!

Microsoft launched new search engine bing.com on 28th, After that Google didn't update PR, is google specially update any particular site for PR?.

I noticed the same on the keyword 'video chat' as well. The day Google launched its service of video chat from within Google chat, it started coming #1 on Google SERPs, although today it shows #2 sometimes.

This is amazing!!!

New Microsoft search engine 'could affect SEO'

Marketers' approach to search engine optimisation(SEO) may have to change significantly following the launch of Microsoft's new search engine, Bing.

This is according to Forrester Research principal analyst Shar VanBoskirk, who explained that the so-called "decision engine" may mean businesses will have to shift away from purely focusing on keywords in their SEO campaigns.

Bing was announced by Microsoft yesterday (May 28th) and was developed with the aim of offering quicker answers to users' search queries, especially in the areas of shopping, travel, local business and information, and health research.

It returns results based on their relevance to individual searchers and displays them based on their subcategory grouping rather than whether they have keywords that match the search query.

"A search for 'Britney Spears' may organise by the subcategories 'biography', 'videos', 'music' and 'concert information'," Ms VanBoskirk stated.

She added: "SEO strategies will adjust in order to optimise web content for select subcategories, rather than select keywords only."

Bing will be gradually rolled out worldwide over the next few days and is expected to be fully available to web users globally by June 3rd.

Is this Google's partiality?

I was just wandering through the web when I found this website. I found it artistic, but could not understand the art as I am an Internet Marketer not an Artist. What I noticed was different for what I have experienced? This website www [dot] exactitude [dot] nl is a GPR6 website and I was amazed to see the Google Page Rank as there's nothing present on the page in text. When I saw the source code there's nothing????!!!!! Even the text only version of Google's cache didn't show any alphabet - then how come it has got a PR of 6.

Is this not PARTIALITY of Google?

New Google Search Options 'changing SEO'

Google's recently launched Search Options look set to make search engine optimisation(SEO) more people-focused, it has been suggested.

The new features allow web users to refine their Google searches in greater detail and it is likely this will mean website marketers need to consider the needs of these people more when implementing SEO.

Companies wanting to get their web pages noticed by people likely to be using these filters need to consider applying SEO principles to their videos, participating in the relevant forums and encouraging customers to post product reviews.

"Search options from Google should be applauded and embraced, because as a content provider and/or a business, you also have more options with regards to which Google results your content will be found in".

Google announced the Search Options feature at its Searchology conference earlier this month.

The search engine also unveiled details of its Google Squared project, which automatically retrieves and organises facts from the web without returning a list of website links.

SEO: Good SEO Means Good Client Communication

When you are communicating with peers you use the insider language that you and your peers understand. If a normal person were to overhear a couple of SEOs discussing their work they would probably walk away wondering what they hell they were talking about and why they were let out of the mental health facility without any meds. The language of SEO can seem like Greek to most people but when it comes to dealing with clients it pays to translate.

Speaking in (SEO) Tongues

On a basic level most do understand that SEO is designed to deliver targeted traffic in organic search results pages though we still have experienced some client representatives who don’t yet know the difference between organic and paid results.

Therefore it is important to explain everything - from overall concept and strategy to specific techniques in a manner that the layperson can understand. When an SEO starts throwing around terms like “mod rewrite”, “canonical domains”, “link siloing”, and so forth, the client is going to become confused and probably tune out. Even IT people, who are sometimes involved as a client presentative, can find themselves lost in the woods with this specialized terminology.

When a client doesn’t understand the information being provided they won’t be capable of passing the information along to the rest of their organization and chances are the recommendations won’t be implemented. The end result? The client sees no improvement in organic search which reinforces the all-too prevalent idea that SEO is a black art practiced by shady snake oil salesmen. When an organization spends good money to get recommendations that they can’t understand or implement, it can understandably fuel organizational antagonism towards SEO.

We have come across a number of clients who have been burned by SEOs in the past. Much of the negative experience can be chalked up to the fact that their previous SEO provided confusing recommendations that they simply didn’t or couldn’t know how to implement. Mistrust of the one SEO vendor then led to skepticism of the SEO industry in general.

Help Clients Understand

While the nomenclature and naming conventions around some SEO concepts can require the use of technical terminology, there are ways to explain them in a client-friendly manner. If a client has a poorly constructed URLs that can be cleaned up using Mod Rewrite it is important to explain exactly what URL rewriting is, how to implement the recommendations, and the benefit that can be gained from doing so. This should be done using simple non-technical language.

Of course some SEOs attempt to impress their clients by using industry specific jargon that’s not understood outside of the search marketing world. This helps no one and in fact can be a red flag.

Our belief as an SEO provider is that clarity should be a core concept. We want our recommendations to be implemented - if nobody understands our recommendations that simply won’t happen. Quality work doesn’t count if nobody can understand what you have done or are recommending. This is especially so in the world of SEO which relies on a true partnership between the vendor who recommends and the client who implements. Implementation often relies on two steps - the client understanding the recommendation and then being able to explain it throughout their organization.

By providing clients with easy to understand recommendations they will be more likely to implement and see results. This will lead to happier clients and help improve the image of the SEO industry.

Effective Marketing Tricks to Boost Your Business During The Recession

Throughout this economic downturn, Experts are suggesting that now is the time to increase marketing and advertising spending because it is likely your competitors are pulling back. Yet, how are you supposed to increase marketing with constricting budgets, decreased cash flow and diminishing revenues? Welcome to the Catch-22 of business marketing.

Fortunately, there are ways to increase your marketing efforts and improve client acquisition techniques without necessarily increasing spending. Here are some marketing tricks you can adopt immediately to boost your business during slow times.

1. Start a blog

Yes, blogging is time consuming and takes commitment. But it is also one of the least expensive methods for establishing a professional “presence” on the Internet. The good news is once you have a blog and it begins receiving a growing number of visitors, you have a “home base” with which you can leverage additional Internet marketing tactics, such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. One of the most popular blogging platforms, WordPress, is completely free and you can create your blog instantly at wordpress or on blogger.

2. Participate in other blogs

Once you have a blog and a “voice” of your own, share your opinions in the “comments” section of relevant blogs. By reading other blogs pertinent to your industry or topic, you become more knowledgeable, and by sharing knowledge or insights with other blog visitors, you further establish your own expertise. It also doesn’t hurt that you can include a link back to your own blog within your signature.

3. Enhance your business Web site with links to industry blogs

This step assumes you already have a Web site for your business. If you don’t, you must get one. Once you have a Web site, the next step is incorporating “Web 2.0” functionality so the Web site does not seem “static.” One of the easiest ways to do this is to add an RSS Feed of your own blog to your Web page. Add other RSS feeds or links to other industry blogs, too. Once potential customers start viewing your Web site as a hub from which they can get information, they are much more likely to revisit your site often. That kind of loyalty and trust is often punctuated with a purchase.

4. Write and publish a book

With self-publishing service providers, publishing a book is easier and faster than ever. And, as a business person in your industry, you possess the knowledge and experience to write and publish a non-fiction book that is relevant to your past, present and future customers. For the sake of example, a book of this nature, in its simplest form, is basically a rewrite of your business model combined with a rewrite of your product/service manual. Not only is a book a revenue channel in its own right, but a published book further establishes your expertise to new customers and provides a low-cost entry to your business. Potential customers who may shy away from your product or service’s price point will be apt to purchase a book from you in the $20 range. It becomes the book’s responsibility to communicate all the advantages/benefits of your product or service. Bonus: Once you have published a book, you open up a whole new marketing opportunity by reaching new customers.

5. Offer your book free to potential clients as an e-book

What’s better than being able to acquire profitable new clients through a $20 “loss leader” like a book? Give your book away for free – all you ask in return is their e-mail address. They get something of value in exchange for adding to your e-mail database. Now, with their permission, you can provide them with additional information and assistance via e-mail, once a month, or at whatever duration you think is best. If they find your correspondence valuable, you are that much closer to adding a new customer to your business. How much did you lose? The royalty from the paperback book sale? What is $2-$10 in comparison to the $50-$200 cost-per-acquisition you typically pay for new customers the traditional way?

6. Engage in pay-per-click advertising

Once you have a blog, a paperback and a free e-book available on your Web site, you are prepared to successfully engage in high ROI (return on investment) pay-per-click Internet advertising through Google and Yahoo. Services such as Google Analytics will help you identify your cost-per-lead, and your own business model should help you identify an acceptable cost-per-lead. If your actual cost-per-lead is lower than your acceptable cost-per-lead, you have a successful marketing campaign. Otherwise, it requires a little refining.

7. Create “microsites” and “landing pages”

The next step is to categorize your pay-per-click campaign into separate and specific categories. Then, make sure people who click on specific keyword ads are arriving upon specific microsites or “landing pages” designed around those keywords. Further enhance your offerings by publishing multiple books (think around 100 pages) and offering multiple e-books, each one specific to each individual and each specific landing page. For instance, even though your business may cater to both mothers and fathers, women and men search for information on the Internet differently. When you advertise to them differently, and then treat them uniquely once they reach your site, they will each feel a personal connection with your business because you are treating them like an individual, rather than a wallet. Given the investment in the blog, in the book, and in the pay-per-click campaign, creating a “pink” version and a “blue” version of two different landing pages is a no-brainer. That is an over-simplification, but the point is the same.

By treating each potential client or customer as a unique individual and by liberally sharing a wealth of information with each of them, you begin to establish your own expertise while gaining their trust and loyalty. People buy from experts who they have reason to trust.

Now that you know how to increase your marketing techniques, even during a recession, imagine what you will be able to do once the economy turns around! These simple and cost-effective marketing steps will help you improve your client acquisition rates and sell more products and services, while your competitors cut back and lose out on new clients.

What's going on with google analytics

I setup a blog and did its google analytics yesterday. But today when I was browsing my google analytics account I was Shocked!

According to above picture my blog got 1 visit, and pageview is 3. It means my bounce rate should be 0% but the google analytics showing that it is 100% how can it is possible.

According to google analytics help, bounce rate definition is following:Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page.
Referance url-http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=81986

Is google analytics lacking somewhere or it is google's bounce rate calculation algorithm bug. I am surprised!

How To Choose The Professional SEO Firm

You have a website and want to business online and you are looking for the professional SEO firm that can help to boost your online business?.

Here are some tips I really want to share with you that will be helpful to you while you are going to hire a professional SEO or Internet Marketing Firm.

1. Stay away from SEO firms or free lancers that guarantees top rankings.
If you have the little knowledge about internet or seo, I am sure you know that there are few guarantees with search engine marketing, and no any seo or internet marketing firm can guarantee that they will sure provide you the top ranking on google, msn, yahoo and most of the search engines.

Firms can, only, guarantee that you’ll be able to generate traffic via paid or black hat seo services such as pay-per-click or paid inclusion but never via organic or white hat search engine optimization.
2.Inquire About realistic expectations on performance.
Both SEO and search engine marketing are very time-consuming tasks. Your SEO consultant will need to spend time and resources to monitor and implement their seo plans for you. Don’t expect to hear specific performance by a certain date, but inquire about results with previous accounts in a similar vertical and/or sites with similar competition levels.
3. Ask the SEO consultant how it plans to execute your SEO campaigns.
An Internet Marketing firm could have a slightly different methodology for getting you best results. However, if the company is unable to explain the method to the madness, then it doesn't know what it is doing or it will likely do something “unconventional” (which you might get penalized for later on).

Take the detailed SEO plan before to execute your SEO campaigns. If you’re not getting a reasonable comprehensive response from the firm and/or hearing statements like “we know SEO secrets,” then please be aware and choose another Firm.
4. Ask to see sample reports.
Ask about the every task reporting that they perform for you. and ranking reports as well in a perticular time period(It can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly). Determine the minimum level of reporting to be delivered by your future SEO firm and the frequency of the report delivery. As I think a one-page report in every six months is not acceptable,

You need to know how much you’re spending, your profitability levels, traffic patterns, and in depth custom analysis (put together by a human being) of your SEO (and paid search) campaigns.
5.Look around for company reviews .
It’s likely that you’ll get referred to a success story; nevertheless, you will probably learn a lot about day-to-day interaction going on behind the scenes. If possible please contact their existing clients as well.
6. Make sure you will own all accounts, domains, content, graphics and/or any other media used to promote your site.
your search-marketing guru builds out micro-sites and blogs, distributes video clips, or creates content, you'll want to ensure all of this content is legally owned by you. It might get really messy, for example, if you realize that you don’t own half of the domains utilized in your SEO strategy. Spell this out in the contract.
7. You get what you pay for.
Both SEO and search engine marketing are very time-consuming tasks. Your consultant will need to spend time and resources to monitor new developments, industry news, industry research and the like. If you’re negotiating a contract, it’s a good idea to inquire about company-wide hourly rates to understand how much time will be spent on your account. If a firm does not use hourly rate calculation, then determine how much your SEO/SEM campaigns will cost each month. Don’t expect great service for $100 per month.
After getting these points and confirm about their service you should deal.....

Happy Blogging!
